Elephant slain for ivory in Bago Region

Ottwin, 22 March — A male elephant of Myanmar Timber Enterprise was killed and its tusks were chopped off at Pyukun reserved forest in Toungoo District of Bago Region.

            It has been learnt that on 2013 February 7, at about 11:45 PM, U ThaTun and wife DawPhyu Ma Chay, U MaungShwe Than and wife Daw Win WinPhyu all together 4 people from “Don Bway” village, “Bu Ta Lone” village group, “Myauk U” township, while they were making the night sentry at the two farm huts, northeast of the village, 10 Bengali men holding rods and knives arrived at the huts.
